Bill, why are you running for School Board?
I see service on the School Board as an opportunity to give back to my community. My family has benefited greatly from the quality education and outstanding opportunities provided through the Valley View district. As a member of the Board of Education, I aim to make those same benefits available to others.
Bill, what is the role of a School Board member?
I view the role of a school board member as one part of a whole. Collectively they make decisions pertaining to the employment of the superintendent and direct through policy the superintendent in the administration of the school district. Alone a board member should listen, reflect and offer opinion and expertise, but only through the board do they exercise authority.
Bill, what would you try to change about the School Board?
One of my primary concerns with the Board’s actions over the past year has been a perceived lack of transparency around both the what and the why certain decisions are made or actions are taken. Wherever possible, I aim to make the Board more transparent to all stakeholders.
Bill, what will you do about my property taxes?
I will do my best to be a responsible steward of the district’s finances, and especially the funding received through property tax revenues.
Bill, do you support or oppose private school vouchers?
I am not in favor of vouchers. While I respect each family’s right to make decisions about education that best meet their particular needs, those choices cannot and should not come at the expense of redirecting public funds to parochial institutions or private corporations.
